Program Requirements
We are especially interested in students who have spent time working with school-age children in various capacities, such as summer camps, SPUD, other volunteering opportunities, or tutoring, either at high school or Holy Cross, and are committed to equity in education.
How to Proceed
As soon as possible, you should make an appointment to meet with
Dr. Bev Bell, the Director of the Teacher Education Program, for an informational meeting. Next, you will meet with the Education liaison faculty member within your major department for further advising about the subject area requirements. Together, these advisors will guide you through the program.
Licensure Completion
In order to complete our TEP program and apply for initial license in MA, students need to:
1. Complete a major in the same subject area in which you wish to teach.
2. Complete a set of subject-specific academic courses according to the
MA Department of Education requirements.
(Most of these fall within the Holy Cross Major requirements and are met in # 1 above.)
3. Complete the Education Department's program of study.
4. Complete 100 hours of supervised pre-practicum.
5. Apply for acceptance into and successfully complete the Practicum
semester.
6. Pass the 2 Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).
