My profile on Phil Papers

Andrea Borghini

Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department at the College of the Holy Cross, I studied for my Ph.D (and M. Phil. and M.A.) in the Philosophy Department at Columbia University, in New York City, and for my Laurea in the Philosophy Department at the Università degli studi di Firenze, in Florence, Italy. My research focuses on metaphysical issues in the general areas of Metaphysics, Philosophy of Biology, and the Philosophy of Food.

Here is a copy of my academic CV. For the academic year 2015-2016, I will be directing the Natural World Cluster of the Montserrat Program, the first-year program of Holy Cross. My work in progress includes a volume with Elena Casetta titled The Metaphysics of Life Sciences, for Bloomsbury Academic, as well as a short book (~35-40,000 words) in Italian on the philosophy of David Lewis, for Carocci editore. Since 2008 I studied food from a philosophical perspective, accumulating material for a monography. I divide up the field in three sub-fields: the act of eating; food production; representations and discourses about food. The two main topics I am currently studying are hunger and recipes.

For three years (2011-2014) I have been the guide to philosophy on About.com. Occasionally, I am eager to contribute philosophy articles for a general public to magazines and newspapers, especially articles on the philosophy of food.
