Due: Class #13
This paper should be approximately three to five double-spaced typed pages in length. You may choose to write
on either topic below. I encourage students to visit the Writer’s
Workshop with a rough draft of your paper. I will gladly review a
draft or an outline.
A. The paper should be as comprehensive as possible, drawing from information gleaned from Bernhard Anderson’s Understanding
the Old Testament, the biblical readings to date, and relevant class
notes:
Analyze the environmental factors that affected the development
of the people of Israel in the Ancient Near East.
B. Choose one character from any of the narrative portions of
the
Old Testament that we have so far read and analyze his/her character
as it can be gleaned from the biblical texts. This will involve a
careful consideration of what the character says, what the character does,
what is said about the character, the situations in which the character
occurs, etc. If you choose a major character whose story is spread
throughout many chapters or even more than one book, either analyze the
character from a limited portion of the text (and indicate that in your
title and thesis statement), or else analyze the character in such a way
that no chapters or episodes contain words or actions that can be understood
to contradict the analysis you provide. |
