Thea 127 Design & Technical Production

Offered annually in the Fall.

This course focuses on the process of theatre-making. It examines the roles of the audience, the designers, technicians and other personnel required to bring a play to life on stage. Students will be introduced to the skills required in each of these areas. A large component of the course consists in providing production support to the Directing Class in the mounting of the Lunchtime Theatre Festival of one-act plays.

Enrollment in Thea 110 is required.

Thea 110 Practicum

Offered every semester.

This course provides students the opportunity to work on major productions of the Theatre & Dance Department. Beginning students will be introduced to the skills needed to work on scenery, costumes, lights, properties and sound.

Required of students enrolled in Basic Acting, Design & Technical Production

Thea 210 Advanced Practicum

Offered every semester.

This course provides students the opportunity to work on major productions of the Theatre & Dance Department. Advanced students will serve as crew heads in these areas.

Majors are required to complete Adv. Practicum twice.

Thea 227 - Scene Design

Offered alternate years, spring semester.

Study of the contribution made by scene design to the production of a play. Course work includes drafting, drawing, model building in addition to script analysis and study of the history of period style and scenography.

Thea 228 - Lighting Design

Offered alternate years, spring semester

A study of the properties of light and the objectives of stage lighting in drama and dance. Includes basic electricity and its control, lighting equipment, drafting and explores basics of human vision.
