Internet Sacred Text Archive.  A large collection of texts from a wide range of religious traditions, including Judaism and Christianity.

Avesta - Zoroastrian Archives.  "We provide the complete text of the extant Avesta, the most ancient scriptures of Zoroastrianism, as well as many Pahlavi scriptures. It also includes information about the Avestan language, and other useful information for students of Zoroastrian religion. Most of the texts in these archives are extremely rare."

  Bible Study Tools

New Testament Gateway  Highly recommended.  An impressive collection of links to internet resources, arranged by topic, and kept current.

Society of Biblical Literature Educational Resources  An excellent collection of web resources for the study of the Bible, arranged topically.  Highly recommended.
Catholic Resources for Bible, Liturgy, and More  A rich collection of resources for the study of the Bible, including bibliographies, links to import online sites, study outlines, artwork related to the Bible, photographs of the remains of ancient Rome, and more.  Well worth a visit.

Online Concordance.  The Bible Gateway.  This site has many English versions of the Bible available online.  Particularly useful is an online concordance, which allows you to find all occurences of a word in a book, series of books, or the entire Bible.  It then lists all of these occurrences in their context.

Gospel ParallelsAn excellent site in which you can compare the gospels side-by-side.  An added feature is that you can compare three, four, or five gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Thomas), as well as Paul and Q.  Highly recommended.
Collection of Online Bible Study Tools.  Crosswalk.com Bible Study Tools.  A collection of Bible texts, concordances, dictionaries, search engines, a parallel Bible, and so on.

The Bible and Interpretation.  "Dedicated to delivering the latest news, features, editorials, commentary, archaeological interpretation and excavations relevant to the study of the Bible for the public and biblical scholars."  Direct access to important articles on topical issues in the field.

The Jewish Encyclopedia.  Dated, but still useful.  Published between 1901 and 1906.  Should always be supplemented by more up-to-date information and analysis.

  Language Tools

Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon.  In preparation by Kaufman, Fitzmyer, and Sololoff.  Site contains valuable explanations, resources, and links.


  Second Temple Judaism

Palestine in the Time of Jesus.  The textbook that we use as a supplemental text in the course "Jesus and His Contemporaries" is entitled Palestine in the Time of Jesus, by K. C. Hanson and Douglas E. Oakman (Minneapolis: Fortress, 1998).  The authors maintain a webpage that supplies many more resources, including images and links to other sites.  It is well worth a visit.

The Gospel of Thomas Home Page  This page is very useful.  It includes a translation of the Gospel of Thomas as well as of other works, bibliographical information, an electronic discussion group, and more.

The Perseus Project  A set on online resources for classics (the study of ancient Greece and Rome).  The site contains original texts and texts in translation, encylopedia entries, images, links to other useful sites, etc.
The Ancient World Web  An extensive site with categorized links.
K. C. Hanson's Home Page  An extensive listing of resources for studying the ancient world.  It is especially strong on social-scientific study.
Images of Ancient Greece and Rome  A substantial collection of images, indexed well.
