The Apostle Paul

This course focuses on the undisputedly authentic letters of Paul -- Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Philemon.  Some attention is also given to the letters attributed to Paul but thought by many to be pseudonymous -- Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, and Titus, as well as to Acts of the Apostles insofar as it sheds light on Paul's career.  The goal of the course is to understand Paul's letters, their theology, ethics, and argumentation.  Efforts are made to read Paul within his original contexts -- early Christian, Jewish, and Greco-Roman, and to understand the role he played within earliest Christianity.
