Approximately half of my group investigates the roles of metals in biology. Primarily we have been looking at the use of Mannich condensations to build new amino alcohol ligands. By varying the amine and phenol starting materials we have been able to prepare a number of novel tetra, penta, and hexadentate ligands. We are now using those ligands to model the structure and reactivity of the active sites of several metallo enzymes
Supramolecular and Materials Chemistry
We are interested in using thiophene derivatives to prepare supramolecular complexes and novel materials. We have used a variety of pyridine/thiophene hybrid ligands to synthesize polyelectrochromic materials once they are attached to metal centers and polymerized.
