2D FundamentalsKelly Winslow

This course is geared to introduce students to basic drawing concepts such as : line, volume, shape, perspective, value and composition. There will be a strong emphasis on observational methods to learn these basic concepts. They will also engage in exercises that encourage use of imagination and dialogue to question pre-conceived notions about drawing. There will also be brief introduction to drawing the live nude model. This course has no pre-requisites.

This course is an intermediate level studio couse that has a pre-requisite of 2D Fundamentals or Life Drawing. The beginning of the course will begin with a quick review of basic drawing concepts using the live, nude model as a consistent subject matter. The students will then explore issues of color, new methods, concepts and materials for making drawings. Students will embark on a project with their sketchbook, do readings that are linked to course material, and become familiar with some contemporary artists who use drawing in their work. They will also begin to think about simple artist statements and long term drawing projects.

Life Drawing

This course is geared to explore drawing from the live model. The figure/body will serve different purposes throughout the class in relationship to the act of drawing.Nicole Howard It will be the subject that serves as the subject for intense investigation through seeing, and communicating about that seeing in the visual manner of drawing. Through the figure, the students will explore line, form, mass, value, texture, perspective, composition and idea. It will be the opportunity for the student to draw a subject that he/she can mirror and empathize with. The class will be exposed to certain artists who use various approaches and ideas to the process of drawing from life and the body. Students will engage in exercises that encourage use of imagination and dialogue which would make them question their pre-conceived notions about drawing.
