Jaime McAllister-Grande '99
Fenwick Scholar; Double Major in Spanish and Music

It's so nice to hear about all the cosas españolas happening at HC. I just had a baby three months ago, so I don't have a lot of time to put something together, but I at least wanted to share some pics from Spain with you for the journal. My husband Bryan and I went to Spain and Portugal for four weeks on our honeymoon in 2006, and I relished the opportunity to speak lots of Spanish. I also have had the opportunity to keep my language skills up during the four years I worked for Harvard at Madison Park High School in Roxbury doing college counseling - speaking Spanish was very useful whenever I connected with parents. I continue to use my Spanish in my current job at Harvard, working in the College Library. We order and catalog materials in Spanish (it is so fun to see the books, DVDs, etc.!) and many of our students and support staff speak Spanish and take advantage of study abroad opportunities, too. I've been very happy to help students keep practicing the language when they get back from a semester in Cuba or Guatemala!
