2YO encourages
sophomores to look beyond the gates of Holy Cross
and reflect carefully on the path of their academic careers
so that they can make the most of their remaining time at
the College.
As part of the program, second year students receive an Academic Planner from their faculty advisors at a special advising session at the start of classes. A 2YO Academic Extravaganza offers a chance to learn about how to plan for the wide variety of academic programs available to Holy Cross students. The 2YO also features special lectures and panel discussions.

Greg Mortenson |
Greg Mortenson is the co-founder of nonprofit Central Asia Institute, founder of Pennies for Peace, and co-author of Three Cups of Tea, which has been a New York Times bestseller since its January 2007 release, and was Time Magazine Asia Book of The Year. Three Cups of Tea tells the story of the remarkable humanitarian campaign that was born on Mortenson’s 1993 trip to Pakistan to climb K2, the world’s second highest mountain. Starting from a rash promise to help build a school for children in an impoverished village, Mortenson has dedicated his life to promoting education in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. As of 2008, he has established over 78 schools, providing education to over 28,000 children, including 18,000 girls. Earlier this year, Mortenson received Pakistan’s highest civil award, the Star of Pakistan, for his courage and humanitarian efforts.
Three Cups of Tea has been selected as the second-year book for the Class of 2012. Copies of the book are available for purchase in the Holy Cross Bookstore; 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Central Asia Institute.
