MISSION

This website is designed to offer a unit of study of the basic facts of Hinduism for a sixth grade

Geography class which has already acquired map knowledge of Asia and the Himalayan region. An

introduction to Hinduism and its impact and influence on daily life will be useful in helping middle school

students in their study of the cultures of India and the subcontinent.

These lessons will work best after students have some familiarity and knowledge of India as a densely

populated, modern nation with a complex and ancient past.

This site was created by Barbara Bacon at the NEH Summer Institute "Literatures, Religions, and Arts of the Himalayan Region," held at the College of the Holy Cross, Summer 2008.
