Greetings, Ahlen, Namaste, Sawatdi, Ya'at'eeh, Sga-noh,

Tashi delek!

This page was created as a resource (and a possible source of inspiration) for teachers who wish to explore stereotypes - specifically Orientalism and American Indianism. In the past there was a tendency to demonize and romanticize people from "the Orient" and American Indians. Unfortunately, this continues into the present day. By examing and discussing these stereotypes with our students we can break down some of these destructive, divisive ideas.

The activities include art, reading, writing, and discussion and are geared toward a 4th and 5th grade class. Please, modify, expand, and tweak the activities in any way you see fit. There are no strict lesson plans with objectives and outcomes here. However, you will find activity guidelines, images to use with the activity, and several sheetsupon which students may record their thinking.

The page is still under construction, so please bear with me!

Peace and Light!

Caitlin
