This video shows vulnerabilities to abuse and exploitation that many migrants experience. In many cases, labor laws and worker's rights are ignored due to the depth of social and economic disparity between the employer and the employed. To what extent should the government of host countries provide protection to their migrant laborers?
Activity: Students will role-play as human rights activists who have been asked by the organization they work for to identify the best and most practical way to prevent this type of tragedy from occurring again. What institutional and societal changes would need to occur? How could such changes be implemented? What are the likely barriers to such changes?
