The Burning of the Philosophers.

On the left the Emperor enthroned, wearing a triple crown, a drawn sword in his right hand; in the centre, a group of Philosophers in the furnace, with an executioner behind them throwing one of their number into the flames; to the right, the Saint, encouraging the martyrs.
