7d Tomb of Lord Bardolph, Dennington, detail of Lord Bardolph's leg with Order of the Garter.  The  band has the inscription Honi soit qui mal y pense (Ashamed be he that thinks ill). The Order, the most prestigious of royal honors, was founded by Henry V in 1417.
