The Director of
Community Relations is responsible
for all SGA initiatives in the area of community
relations. He/She works with the College's
Community Liaison, as well as the Office
of Judicial Affairs, to supplement the college's
community relations initiatives. In addition,
the Director of Community Relationsl serves
as the student representative on the College's
Community Service Committee, the College
Hill Civic Association, and the Community
Alliance. He/She works with community-related
student organizations, including SPUD, SADER,
YOYO, and Worcester House, to coordinate
and improve student relationships with the
city of Worcester and help better the image
of Holy Cross within the Worcester community.
The Director of Community Relations continues
the work on the Cookson Park Community Building
Initiative and work to address off-campus
student concerns.
Patrick Murray ’07 will be serving as the Director of Community Relations for the school year. Patrick Murray has been involved with several community service projects over the past two years. He participates in the Big Brother Big Sister program at Worcester ’s Nativity School . Along with Big Brother, Patrick has been a volunteer in the after school program, Campfire Kids.
This year, Patrick will be working with the College Hill Civic Association, the Worcester Police, and the Worcester City Council. He hopes to integrate the Holy Cross Community and the Worcester Community.
This position was added as a Cabinet Position
in January 2003. For the Spring of 2003,
Nicole Mortorano served as the Director
of Community. The first with an entire academic
year as Director of Community Relations,
Nick Desimone demonstrated the leaps and
bounds that could be achieved. Not only
was the Holy Cross Community's relationship
with Worcester improved, he started the
Cookson Park Project which is an initiative
earning SGA two grants to be used toward
the development of the Cookson Park Community
Building Initiative. One grant from the
Marshall Fund was awarded in the amount
of $1,000. A second grant in the amount
of $1,000 was awarded to SGA from the Worcester
Area Mission Society. Monies received will
be used to begin park beautification projects.
