Governance Councils

The Committee on College Governance is the governing body which brings together the representatives to the committees of the college. Twice a semester the students who sit on these committees come together and report about the projects of their respective committees. The committee comprises the student representatives from the Student Life Council, the Academic Affairs Council and the Finance and Planning Council, as well as the Faculty Assembly.

 

Student Life Council

A committee of students, faculty, and administrators, responsible for advising and making recommendations to the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Dean of Students on all issues concerning student life. Past issues discussed at the SLC include community standards, judicial procedures, residence life, multicultural education, and the sexual decision-making handbook. The SLC representatives are responsible for attending all meetings and actively representing the student body and the interests of the SGA. The SLC meets every other week.

 

Academic Affairs Council

Kelly DiMascio '09 / Bridget Whitehead '09


A committee of students, faculty, and administrators, the AAC in place to discuss matters concerning the academic life of the College. The AAC sets the agenda for all Faculty Assembly meetings, and debates issues surrounding educational policy, including curriculum and new majors. Current issues for the AAC include evaluations of the Course Evaluation Forms, a review of the Honors Program and implementation of a First Year Experience. The AAC representatives are responsible for attending weekly meetings and actively representing the student body and the interests of the SGA.

 

Financing and Planning Council

A committee of students, faculty, and administrators, the FPC is responsible for discussing the long-term financial planning needs and general budget policy of each fiscal year. Additionally, the Council makes recommendations on such needs and policies to the President of the College and is currently involved in the college's largest strategic planning initiative. The FPC representatives are responsible for attending all meetings, actively representing the student body and the interests of the SGA.

 

Faculty Assembly

 

 

The Faculty Assembly serves as the legislative body on all matters relating to academic affairs and the faculty status. Faculty Assembly representatives are responsible for attending all meetings, actively representing the student body and the interests of the SGA. The Faculty Assembly is comprised of the entire faculty, as well as representatives of the administration and the student body. The Faculty Assembly meets approximately 2-3 times per semester.
