Our Constitution
Note: The general attendance of ABiGaLe voted in a number of changes to the group's constitution in the final meeting of the 2006-2007 school year, several of which are not yet included on this page. They will be posted as soon as possible.

Article I: Name
Section 1
The name of the organization is the Association of Bisexuals, Gays and Lesbians (ABiGaLe).

Article II: Purpose
Section 1
To sustain an active and supportive community for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (GLBTQ) students at Holy Cross.
Section 2
To provide a necessary voice on campus, furthering acceptance and awareness of the GLBTQ community at Holy Cross.
Section 3
To promote and facilitate education, discussion, and dialogue on GLBTQ issues at Holy Cross.

Article III: Membership
Section 1
Being a multicultural student orginzation, the membership of ABiGaLe is open to any student member of the Holy Cross community, with consideration that the main purpose of ABiGaLe is to serve the GLBTQ community at Holy Cross.
Section 2
This organization shall not discriminate against any person wishing to participate in meetings or events.
Section 3
Since meetings are open to the entire campus, there is a limit to the level of confidentiality which ABiGaLe can provide. However, if so desired by the individual, membership will remain unrecorded in the interest of confidentiality.
Section 4
All members must respect comfort levels and privacy of every individual. Additionally, it is the responsibility of each member to inform the group of his or her own comfort levels. There will be no pressure on any member to disclose their sexual orientation outside of group meetings. Meetings will not be permitted to reveal the sexual orientation of other members who wish to have it remain unknown.

Article IV: Leadership
Section 1
ABiGaLe is headed by a five member executive board, include two co-chairs, a secretary, a treasurer, and an SGA Representative / Member at Large.
Section 2
As GLBTQ individuals, officers are required to be as comfortable with the level of visibility within the Holy Cross community as their positions mandate.
Section 3
Any of the five elected officers may be removed from office by a 2/3 vote of the general assembly

Article V: Elections
Section 1
Elections will take place in the latter part of the spring semester. Nominations will be sent to the executive board by email. Members may nominate themselves or others.
Section 2
To prevent bias affecting election results, executive board members may not consult or review election results of their nominated positios.
Section 3
Candidates will be notified of their nominations and given an opportunity to refuse or accept.
Section 4
Any challenges to election results shall be brought before the advisor.

Article VI: Amendments
Section 1
This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of ABiGaLe members present.
Section 2
All amendments shall be presented in writing to the co-chairs.
Section 3
MEmbers shall be informed of proposed amendments, and notice of the vote on an amendment will be given one week ahead of time.

Article VII: Group Advising
Section 1
The advisor shall meet with the executive board monthly, either at the executive board meetings or informal meetings scheduled at another time. The advisor shall remain regularly in contact with the executive board.
Section 2
The advisor shall maintain cooperation between ABiGaLe and Allies.
Section 3
The advisor will keep in mind the various levels of "outness" in the general membership and maintain a certain level of confidentiality.
Section 4
The advisor, if possible, will occasionally attend weekly general meetings of ABiGaLe.
Section 5
The advisor will provide criticism and direction for the group while maintaining respectful distance.

Article VIII: Meetings
Section 1
Meetings shall be held once weekly or as deemed necessary by the group.
Section 2
Meetings shall consist of announcements and encouragement of social interaction.

Article IX: Committees
Section 1
Committees may be formed by any member of the general membership, as long as he or she works towards betterment of ABiGaLe, with approval of the executive board.
Section 2
Committees must have an informal leader who shall keep the executive board regularly updated on committee affairs.
