Mission Statement
ABiGaLe provides a face and voice for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (GLBTQ) community at Holy Cross, fosters a social network of GLBTQ students, and works to educate the community and facilitate discussion and dialogue on GLBTQ issues on campus. ABiGaLe provides a positive social environment for GLBTQ students while furthering acceptance and understanding in the wider community.
Holy Cross in the Princeton Review
For several years, the popular Princeton Review has consistently ranked Holy Cross high on its list of colleges where "Alternative Lifestyles Not an Alternative" - in other words, schools that are not gay-friendly. We believe this statistic does not accurately represent the Holy Cross community.
It's puzzling to many why such a negative stereotype of Holy Cross has survived so long, despite evidence to the contrary. For example, also in the Princeton Review, students of Holy Cross are cited commenting on the college's "general atmosphere of friendliness and acceptance." Also, they note that the administration and school have "done a lot of work toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive place... Most all faculty and administrators are exceptionally welcoming of diversity."
ABiGaLe hopes to continue to increase the visibility of the GLBTQ community on campus, and encourages current and prospective students to judge the college's acceptance of GLBTQ persons based on their interactions with the college community, rather than what they read elsewhere.
