"To my surprise, I found that the Holy Cross Marching Band had members with a fairly broad range of musical backgrounds: some members had been in a marching band for much of their lives while others had very little experience in a band; some members were technically proficient in playing their respective instruments while others had just picked up their instruments for the first time in a while. Not only did I feel comfortable playing in such a band, but I also received warm greetings and encountered countless friendly faces during my first few weeks in band. Everyone was so welcoming and willing to help me that the thought of quitting band never crossed my mind. I look back fondly on my first year in the band because I have already formed great memories and friendships. Between band football every Saturday, bus trips to other colleges, and "band bonding" events, I can't think of anything else I've done so far on-campus that has been more fun than marching band. "
