The
Fourth Wave: What is the New Feminism?
10.25.03
College of the Holy Cross
Women’s dignity, feminism, and women’s rights,
to name a few, have become very “hot topics” on
the Holy Cross campus. The goal of the conference, “The
Fourth Wave: What is the New Feminism?” is to focus
on the new feminism that is emerging on the horizon through
not only informing the audience, but also trying to develop
a sense of what the future of feminism should be.
Prof.
Fox-Genovese will be speaking on the Holy Father’s
Apostolic Letter, Mulieris Dignitatem, as well as what
is means to be pro-woman. Prof. Smith will deliver her
talk, “Contraception: A Woman’s Friend or
Foe?” Dr. Mildred Jefferson will speak about the
economic and class wars that have been waged against
minorities since the Pill and abortion first mainstreamed
into our society. Dr. Angela Lanfranchi will address
the abortion-breast cancer link in her talk, “A
Call to Reason: The Breast Cancer Connection.”
Apart
from the four speakers we will also have the discussion
panel. Our goal for the panel is to foster an organic
discussion with the audience in order to develop
an understanding of what the future of feminism should
be. The panel is
designed to add a discussion element beyond the brief
question and answer sessions with the speakers.
