.: So You Want to Be a Fool?
So you think you’ve got what it takes to be a Fool? Well, we’d like to see it. Every year we lose members to study abroad, busy schedules, or (alas) the real world. Of course we miss all of our old members dearly, but the music must continue on. To keep our sound as full as possible, we hold auditions early in the fall to fill the empty spots.
Everyone is welcome to try-out, freshmen and upperclassmen alike. Because there’s high interest in the group and very few open spots, we have to be pretty selective. Keep in mind, however, that we are a tight group and talent is not all that matters. Most of all, we need our members to be committed to our rehearsals and performances. We are also looking for positive attitudes that will make the upcoming year fun and productive for everyone.
All old members take part in judging the audition process. (Don’t worry, we’re not at all like Simon Cowell.) We’ll ask a few questions, test your range, have you match pitch, and ask you to sing a prepared solo. Next, we’ll teach you a part from one of our old songs to see how well your voice blends with the group sound, and to see how fast you can pick up your part... correctly.
If you can beat-box or arrange music, we always need more of that kind of talent too, so make sure you let us know everything you’ve got.
So, all you need to remember for your audition is to relax, have fun, and show us your best!
Still interested in auditioning? Great! Drop us an email, or you’ll see us at the SPLD recruitment night in the fall, and you can sign up there. We look forward to singing with you. Good luck!
