Recap:

The team had its first road trip this season on Sunday night traveling down to Milford, CT to take on the Sacred Heart JV team.  Plagued by numerous first period penalties, the Crusaders could not get anything going until Frank Powers ’07 scored a shorthanded goal when Tom Florino sent him in on a partial breakaway and Powers beat the goalie glove side.  This was Powers’ third goal in three games, an impressive start for the freshman from North Reading, MA.  Sacred Heart evened the score moments later as a trailer got loose and buried rebound from the slot.  The first half (Sacred Heart plays two 25 minute periods instead of the usual 3 periods) ended 1-1 with both teams having good scoring chances late in the period.  The Crusaders came out with a little more intensity in the start of the second half and had numerous scoring chances in the last 5 minutes of regulation.  The best chance was a JP Lannon ’04 wrist shot with :09 seconds left but the Sacred Heart goalie made a nice save.  Neither team could score in the overtime period and the Crusaders were sent home with a disappointing tie.  The Crusaders take on the two-time defending league champion Bulldogs from Bryant at home this Thursday night at 8:45.
