MAVIN News Release
Map of the National Campus Marrow-thon!

MIX is dedicated in providing the best possible resources available as a student organization here at College of the Holy Cross. Our goal is to have over 500 persons join the National Marrow Donor Registry and help pass the torch of the Jesuit philosophy, "Men and Women For Others," or the NMDP version of the "living gift of life." The entire procedure will only take approximately 20 minutes!! So come on over and enjoy free prizes, gifts, raffles, and TONS OF CANDY!

MIX has been working diligently on creating one of New England's largest attempt in saving a life. Look for our advertisements with radio station MIX 98.5 during the 3rd week of January 2004, newspaper advertisements with the Boston Globe, Worcester Telegram and Gazette, and many more!

MIX's 1st Annual Bone Marrow Drive will be located in the Hogan Campus Center on the 3rd floor in the Ballroom. The date for this event is Thursday, February 19th, 2004 from 12 noon until 7 pm

During this heroic event, MIX will also be collecting donations to be made to the MAVIN Foundation's Match-Maker Program. The MAVIN Foundation started the National Match-Maker Program last year. Match-Maker is an innovative, award-winning program. For their unique approach to health issues, Match-Maker received the 2002 "Heroes of Health Care" Award for Innovation from the Washington Health Foundation. MAVIN has recently combined their efforts with the Help Nicole Organization to best realize their goals of multiracial donor recruitment and education. Together, MAVIN has organized over 100 bone marrow drives locally and across the nation, registering nearly 6,000 new potential donors and more successfully registering all minority donors than the NMDP!

There is an HLA typing fee of $25 for Caucasian persons. IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE FIRST 220 CAUCASIAN PERSONS TO JOIN THE REGISTRY, MIX WILL PAY $10 OF YOUR $25 TYPING FEE!! SO THE FIRST 220 CAUCASIAN PERSONS ONLY HAVE TO PAY $15!!!!!!!! SO SHOW UP EARLY AND HELP SAVE A LIFE!! Minority persons do not have to pay the $25 typing fee as an incentive from the National Marrow Program to join the registry due to its low percentages, but MIX is asking for all minority persons to be as gracious as possible with donations to help MIX in this heroic cause. All remaining funds will be given to the MAVIN Foundation's Match-Maker Program.

In order to account for numbers, paperwork, and staffing, if you would like to attend the MIX Bone Marrow Drive and register to the NMDP, please e-mail MIX@holycross.edu with subject line stating: "Drive Registration" with a body text saying you're interested in attending. Or you can call Isaac Tesfay, one of the drive coordinators, at 508-767-4062.
