MIX Luncheon Series

ALANA Weekend Brunch Speech
The ALANA Weekend Brunch is typically held each year during the first semester for accepted ALANA students attending Holy Cross. This brunch is an opportunity for the ALANA students and their parents to have lunch and socialize with many of the other ALANA students and parents. During these weekend brunches, members from cultural organizations give speeches on their organizations and their importance in the community.

Academic Year 2003 - 2004

MIX Social
MIX planned a small final end of the year party featuring multicultural desserts on Sunday, May 2nd from 8-10pm. in the Loyola Ballroom. The new 2004-2005 MIX Executive Board dediced to serve flan, cannoli's, baklava, cookies, and a few other different types of desserts. Drinks included mixed non-alcoholic drinks such as Daiquiri's and Dunkin Donuts' Hot and Cold Coffee! The event was extremely successful and provided students with a nice study break option.

Noche Latina
LASO ( Latin-American-Student-Organization ) is holding their annual Noche Latina performance during prospective student weekend on Saturday, April 17th from 6-9:30pm. This is an annual performance to demonstrate the latino/hispanic culture. MIX has purchased a table for its general membership. Contact MIX@holycross.edu for more information.

ExplorASIAn
ASIA is holding their annual performance that demonstrates the many different cultures of the world. This year, they have changed the title from "ASIA Takes You Around the World" to "ExplorASIAn" to particularly focus on the many different Asian cultures. 2 members of the MIX membership are assisting with the event working spotlights.

MIX host a Student Programs and Leadership Development Office Appreciation Reception
co-sponsored by the SGA, CAB, and Allies on April 1st, 2004s
MIX would like to thank and appreciate the Office of Student Programs and Leadership Development for their HUGE success this year. MIX took the opportunity to appreciate the hardwork and efforts that go into running an office with such a large volume of students, clubs, and organizations. There were speeches by the co-chairs of the SGA, CAB, Allies, and MIX. After the conclusion of speeches, MIX presented the staff members of SPLD with a matted poster entitled: "Building Community" with signatures by student officers and members of the Holy Cross community. All members of the HC community were welcomed to attend and offered their thanks and appreciation to the staff. This event was held on Thursday April 1st, 2004 from 2:30 - 3:30pm in rooms 304/305 and served cheese and crackers, fruits, and assorted beverages.

MTV's Real World Cast Members Speak at Holy Cross
co-sponsored by SGA, BSU, ASIA, Women's Forum, BHMS, MIX, Mediation Society, RA Staff and more
On April 2nd, 2004 Jacquese and Jamie, cast members from MTV's show Real World San Diego visited Kimball Theater at Holy Cross to conduct a 'real' discussion on gender, race, and sexuality.

Anti-Hate Crime Rally: Where Is the Love?
A member of the MIX eboard had initiated and helped coordinate Holy Cross's second hate rally titled "Where is the Love?" on Wednesday, March 31st. The rally was held in protest to homophobic hate crimes that had been directed to a openly gay student. The rally attracted over 200 people and incorporated a diverse range of faculty, administration, and students. The all-female accapella group, the Delilahs opened with the song "we shall overcome," and was followed by speeches from Gideon Akande '06, Rashaunda Tyson '04, Prof. Carbine, Alex Cunningham '05, and other members of the Holy Cross community. MIX at Clark University
MIX co-sponsored a multi-racial dialogue at Clark University on March 30th, 2004 from 6-8pm. MIX gave a speech on "what's in a name." This MIX speech involved the development of MIX through their Unity Week Luncheon topic: "Biracial Diaspora: How Do You Identify in Regards to Your Geographical Location?" In this speech, it provided the developmental analysis of the potential problems for bi/multi-racial children and followed with the development of MIX and its official organizational status. MIX also discussed its current events and described how to host and facilitate a successful bone marrow drive.

MIX with CASA
Mix participated in CASA's Cultural Night on March 26th, 2004. Cultural Night is a celebration of African and Caribeean cultures. This was by no means an exclusive event. People from all cultures and ethnicities were encouraged to participate. There was poetry, music, plays, and dances, both free and choregraphed styles.

MIX It Up with MIXed Drinks at the Edge!
On March 27th, 2004 MIX cosponsored with the Saturday night dance club called "The Edge" in hosting: 'MIX it up with MIXed Drinks at The Edge!' We served non-alcoholic mixed drinks, snacks, food, gifts, prizes, and much more with
The Edge on Saturday night!!

Sacred Heart Church gets Painted!
MIX had its 1st off-campus community event co-sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs at the Sacred Heart Church on 600 Cambridge St. MIX Membership cleaned and painted the reception hall, kitchen, and control room. The event involved a free lunch, tons of paint, and lots of laughs.

St. Patrick's Day Volunteering
MIX had its membership volunteer their time in staffing St. Patrick's Day dining events, helping to ensure safety and satisfaction to the student body. The event entailed a free dinner with the deans and administration, free t-shirt, and a special dessert cookie cake from the Kimball Dining Hall staff.

MIX's Hosting of New England Bone Marrow Drive
MIX spearheaded One Of New England's Largest Attempt to Save A Life in February by hosting a Bone Marrow Drive. Currently, there are many residents within the New England area that are patiently waiting for stem cell or bone marrow transplants that are suffering from Leukemia, aplastic anemia, and other forms of cancer. For many of these individuals, there only hope for survival is through stem cell or bone marrow transplants. On Thursday, February 19th, 2004 MIX hosted the Bone Marrow Drive from 12noon until 7pm at College of the Holy Cross in the Hogan Campus Center.

AIDS Banquet Quilt Piece and Poem
In coordination with Bishop Healy Multicultural Organization's AIDS Awareness Banquet, MIX designed a piece that was put together with the other Multicultural Student Organizations at Holy Cross to form a Quilt. Additionally, during MIX's quilt piece presentation, the E-Board poem was presented.

Halloween Trick-Or-Treat
MIX had its general membership to volunteer in the annual Halloween event at Holy Cross for the local seven hills community. MIX membership acted as story tellers, tour guides, game coordinators, and much more! This event marked MIX's 1st community event and was a great success

First Annual Multicultural Organization Conference
MIX hosted one of the first student led conferences in the Worcester consortium for the students of the Worcester consortium. This conference was titled "AWMOC" - 1st Annual Worcester Consortium Multicultural Organizations Conference. 10 local colleges attended this conference to discuss the upcoming year and how to collaborate together in developing stronger student organizations. The conference covered three important criteria for running an organization. These topics included motivation and inspiration, service and events, and co-sponsorship and outreach. This event was a great success and is in the works to be hosted again for the upcoming 2004-2005 academic year.
