What Does It Mean to be MIXed?
Multiethnic describes people characterized by two or more ethnicity's,
which encompasses multiracial, which involves two or more traditional
racial groups, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.
What Is MIX?
MIX stands for Multiethnic Identity Xploration and we are a non-profit
student organization here at College of the Holy Cross. Members of this
organization include representatives of many different cultures and ethnicity's
from all over the world. MIX is a non-denominational and all-inclusive
student organization.
When Was MIXed formed?
MIX started from a reading by Matt Kelley in the Link Magazine.
This reading sparked an idea by two multiethnic students in 1999, with
the concern that there were no resources for other students and members
of the local community that discussed their particular bi-ethnic issues
and concerns. By the end of the 2001-2002 academic year, MIX was
officially recognized as a student organization by the College of the
Holy Cross Student Government Association.
What is the Mission of MIX?
The Multiethnic Identity Xploration Student Organization's
mission is to provide resources for students and members of the local
Worcester community that deal with issues pertinent to the bi/multi-ethnic
cause. Through providing meetings, programs, cultural events, speakers,
and socials, MIX is determined to help assist and support multiethnic
people in appreciating all of their cultural heritages and to educate
others concerning multi-ethnicity.
