The Holy Cross Men's Track and Field team traveled to Army this weekend for the Patriot League Championships. Having suffered a loss just 2 weeks before at home to Colgate, HC was fired up to exact some revenge. That is exactly what they did, as the Crusaders outdistanced the Raiders by 19 points. Steve Virgilio had an outstanding weekend as he placed 3rd in the Decathlon with 5,964 points. Dwayne Henclewood took 2nd in the discus with a huge toss and PR of 54.09 meters, which qualified him for NCAA regionals. Dwayne also took 6th in the shotput, throwing 14.51 meters. Bill Phelan took 4th in the hammer throw, with a PR of 52.87 meters. Freshman Nick Carr had a gigantic PR of five meters in the hammer, taking 8th place overall with a toss of 49.22 meters. James Clifford set two PRs, splitting a high 1:57 in the 4x800m on Friday and coming back to run a 4:06.09 in the 1500 placing 9th on Saturday. The 4x100m relay team placed 4th in 43.97, while the 4x400m relay took 6th in 3:25.88 (Bob Leader - 50.1; Brendan Kearney - 50.6; Shawn David - 52.4; Corey Glidden - 52.4). Overall Holy Cross finished 7th, as Army ran away with their 13th straight outdoor track title.

A flurry of PRs marked this gray, rain soaked day in New Haven, CT - Bob Leader in the 400m (50.74), Jim McKeon in the 5000m (15:47.87), James Clifford and Tim Murphy in the 1500m (4:09.5 and 4:11.5). The 4x1 relay took 3rd place in 44.04; sophomore Dan Ryan leapt to a 2nd place finish in 45'5.25", and freshman Nick Carr took 3rd place in the hammer with a throw of 42.36 meters.

The Crusaders descended upon Columbia's Baker Field to compete in the Columbia Invitational on a bright and slightly windy day this past Saturday. The meet was highlighted by the PRs of James Clifford in the 1500m (4:08.20) and Mike Yatco in the 800m run (2:00.91), as well as Bill Phelan's 3rd place toss and Stephen Laney's 5th place effort in the hammer throw.

Bob Leader torched the track with two sub 50 performances, running 49.76 to win the 400m dash and a low 49 split to lead off the 4x400m relay. Bill Phelan PRed in the Hammer throw, placing third with a toss of 48.42 meters (158 feet 10 inches).

Steve Virgilio placed first in the decathlon, scoring 5604 points, as Tom Farrelly took 5th. Dwayne Henclewood placed 2nd in the discus throw of 51.33m (168-05). Bill Phelan took 8th in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.85m (170-01). The 4x100m squad of Shawn David, Corey Glidden, Sean Flood, and Virgilio ran 44.13, while the 4x400m team of Bob Leader, Brendan Kearney, David and TJ Picanco ran 3:23.42. Tim Murphy had a big PR in the 1500, running a 4:07.21, while Bill Phelan followed up Saturday's performance with another PR in the hammer, throwing 48.91m (160 feet 5 inches). Dwayne Henclewood took 1st place in both the discus (46.78m, 153 feet 6 inches) and the shot put (14.23m, 46 feet 8.25 inches).

John Nieskens once again led the way for the Crusaders as he threw down an IC4A qualifying time of 31:15.70 in the 10,000m run on his way to victory, 50 seconds in front of the closest competition. TJ Picanco finished 3rd place in the 800m in 1:58.88.

4/25: Brown Springtime Invitational
A small squad ventured down to Brown for one last chance to compete before Patriots. Bill Phelan took 2nd overall in the hammer throw, while Dwayne Henclewood placed 3rd in the shot put and 5th in the discus. Results can be found here.
