Twenty-Fourth Regiment |

regiment was recruited by Col. Thomas G. Stevenson, of Boston at Camp Meigs,
Readville. They were mustered into service on August 13, 1862 and marched
out on August 15, 1862. During 1862 to July 7, 1863, the regiment was stationed
near Washington and Alexandria doing garrison, guard and escort duty as
ordered from time to time.
This regiment had a reputation for neatness, quiet and tasteful arrangement of their quarters, their elegance of its muskets, its soldierly bearing and discipline, its proficiency in drill, and the excellence of its band. |
