Prisoner's Dilemma Game by Serge Helfrich. An applet with associated materials that describes a classic game that is especially useful in understanding the evolution of "altruistic" behavior.
Helfrich's applet requires that your Browser must be Java 1.1 enabled -- if yours is not, your computer will probably freeze or crash. The site will tell you whether or not the applet will run on your machine. I've had best luck using Internet Explorer 4 which is easy to upgrade to the latest versions of Java. |
Alexander Mehlmann's Weird Page: A "must-view". The principal gems at this site are "optimal bloodsucking strategies for vampires" and "a detailed model of Faust's compact with the devil" (which is presented in its fullness in German with summaries in Portuguese and English). Each is nicely introduced and explained with flair and humor, but full appreciation requires some advanced calculus.
Resampling Statistics: The statistical packages offered at this page are not only very reasonably priced but are excellent for teaching students the fundamentals of statistics. We have used them with great success at Holy Cross for our first year majors, we teach resampling techniques as a portion of our major's statistics course, and a number of us use these techniques in our research.
Apple Computer's Educational Object Economy: A listing of Java Applets and Simulations of use to Educators
Prof. Bill Healy's On-Line Evolution Notes: These are very readable, good notes although they are aimed primarily at non-Biology majors.
