The Voice of a Village:
Worcester's Quinsigamond Community Remembers World War II

Welcome to our World War II home front project. Together, students at
Holy Cross and residents of Quinsigamond Village in Worcester, Massachusetts,
have compiled a scrapbook of memories that tell the story of one community's
attempts to remember World War II. Through interviews conducted by Holy
Cross students, Quinsigamond residents have created oral histories by
giving voice to their common past.
While the most commonly recorded history of World War II focuses on the
troops that fought so bravely abroad, this project seeks to examine the
profound effect the war had on communities of citizen soldiers who fought
from home. From their faith and labor to their families and shared sacrifice,
the people of Quinsigamond Village have much to offer the present by providing
us with a picture of the neighborhood in which they have lived for so
long. When possible, the students have contextualized their experiences
within the larger narrative of the American home front during World War
II.
So please, come on in and take a look through
the pages of our scrapbook to discover the story of one mill town's journey
through one of our nation's most challenging periods of history.
