Wise Virgins

Conveyed in Old South Church by The Miracle at Cana, the ritual of the wedding feast is also portrayed in Trinity Church by the Cottier and Company window depicting The Wise Virgins. Located in the south transept aisle with The Sower and Reaper, this window vividly illustrates the parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew As 25:1-13), the story of wisdom, triumphant. The five Wise Virgins, remembering to bring oil for their lamps unlike the forgetful, foolish ones, were ready to greet the bridegroom attending the wedding feast.  The five, Foolish Virgins, forced to go to the merchants upon awakening from their slumber - the bridegroom was delayed and the virgins all fell asleep - missed his arrival while they were off buying oil. the Wise Virgins proudly accompanied the bridegroom to the feast, the Foolish Virgins were not allowed in the door. Unprepared, the Lord would not let them in to join in the wedding ritual.
