                 Contemporary Status
Today the library presents not only the history of ideas, as a library, but also is a national treasure of the history of art, architecture, and manuscripts.  The Library’s special collections include almost all of the original 750 titles purchased in England in 1749, the Redwood archives, and an important painting collection. The Library is now also partially funded by endowments and other gifts.  The Brick Market is the home of the Museum of Newport History. Throughout the years both the library and market had been remodeled to better meet the demands of the community. Fortunately, due to the generosity and skill of  Norman Isham and John Nicholas Brown, both of these buildings were restored to Harrison's original designs in 1915 and 1928, respectively.
