HORSHAM ST. FAITH

Horsham St. Faith  (Norfolk), Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew
The cult of St. Faith was brought to Norfolk by Robert Fitzwalter and his wife who established a daughter house of the monastery of Conques (France) at Horsham St. Faith.  The church contains an important painted screen dated 1528 (Duffy, Stripping of the Altars, 86).  on the left are recognizable Etheldreda of Ely, Catherine of Siena, Clare, George?, Helena and a Bishop.  On the right is St. Bridgit of Sweden, Oswold, Catherine ?,  and two other female saints.
The pulpit is equally decorated with painted images of saints.  The cycle begins with the Virgin and Child with clerical donor at her feet with English prayer on scroll, then Sts. Helena (cross), Andrew (X shaped cross), ), youthful bishop, Christopher (Christ Child on shoulder). John the Evangelist (chalice with dragon), John the Baptist (lamb), and Stephen (deacon’s robes and rocks).
