Yaxley (Suffolk), Church of St. Mary
Important 15th century rood screen, now without vaulting or rood loft.  Triple window in chancel over the screen indicates ceremonial function.  Lower panels are nearly intact.  From north, Sts. Ursula, 2 and 3 obliterated, 4 Catherine (unphotographed); on south 5 Mary Magdalene with unguent jar, 6 Barbara with tower, 7 Dorothy with basket of flowers, 8. Cecilia
Evidence of iconoclastic zeal in scratching out the faces of saints.
Important fragments of stained glass, especially in east window of north aisle.
