Why Study the Himalayas?
As an educator, I believe in the concept of lifelong learning and try
continually to further my own learning. My current area of study
is the Himalayan region of the world. I chose to study this region
for several reasons:

To capitalize on the interest my students have regarding the situation
in Tibet and the stories of climbing Mt. Everest.

To challenge my students to relate to people who they perceive to be completely
different from themselves.

To cultivate higher level thinking and problem solving skills.

To inspire active citizenship.

To create a greater understanding of our western, industrialized, capitalistic
society by studying a culture that has a different heritage.

Finally, the Himalayan region provides an engaging study for students of
all ages.
