Exploring the Human Geography of Himalayan Waterways by Geoffrey Wingard

Student's Guide

Before you begin your individual analysis of the Himalayas it is essential that you have good grasp of the skills you, as a geographer, can use to examine human habitation around the globe.  There are three basic skill-sets you must master to complete your work in this unit.  You must know how to determine and describe Climate, how to define the Five Themes of Geography and how to determine Modes of Production

To practice these skills, take a few minutes and go through each tutorial section, read the information and complete each tutorial and then return to this page using your Back button.

Click on a title to reach a tutorial:

  • Climate:  The key environmental factor that drives human adaptation.
  • Modes of Production: The six basic categories of social organization and resource exploitation common to all human societies.
Take your time on the tutorials!  You will  not be graded on your practice exercises, but you will be assessed by your teacher on your final analysis using these skills.  It is important that you know how to employ all the skills included in the tutuorials.

After you have completed the tutorials take the tour of Indus River and then return here and continue to the Regions page to choose your area of focus.
