Jawalakhel Handicraft Center (Pvt.) Ltd.-
After the Chinese invasion and complete occupation of Tibet in the year 1959, thou-sands of Tibetans fled Tibet and sought asylum in India, Nepal and Bhutan. For those Tibetans who could reach and stayed in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, His Majesty's Government has so kindly allotted some land within the Kathmandu city area for the rehabilitation of the Tibetan Refugees. Among the Tibetan Refugees, there were a few skilled Tibetan carpet weavers whose main occupation was carpet weaving in Tibet. Keeping in view this expertise and to employ Tibetan refugees in carpet weaving to sustain their livelihood in the future, the International Committee for Red Cross & Swiss Association for Technical Assistance (SATA) now called Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) jointly established the Jawalakhel Handicraft Center PVT. LTD in 1960 with the kind cooperation of His Majesty's Government of Nepal.
