Activity: Creating
a glossary of words that come up in the novel Buddha’s Orphans
by Samrat Upadhyay. Some words can be defined or explained in context
while others may need some on-line research. Food items or language may
need access to more
specific Nepali resources.
Options: 1) Assign the whole class to each search for definitions or explanations while
The class reads the novel.
2) Divide the class into partners or small groups of 3-4 to be responsible for a
group of words that students research or fill in based on context clues.
