The account of Catherine's martyrdom takes the entire height of the nave wall above the arcade. It begins at the top. Catherine learns the Christian faith and refuses to sacrifice to idols. She argues with philosophers and they are converted, She is
imprisoned and tortured; the wheels meant to crush her are shown in the second register. In the lowermost register she is
beheaded while the Emperor Maxentius looks on.
