PASSION AND RESURRECTION SERIES This series of the death and resurrection of Christ was visible in the church of St. Savior in York when Margery Kempe tells of her visits of 1413 and 1417. The specificity of some of the scenes resonates with the spirituality expressed in Kempe's narrative: the detailed face of the mourners emphasizing the empathy of the onlooker, the deposition showing the Virgin clasping Christ's hand, or the burial with the Holy Women touching Christ's body. In the same manner that Kempe's narrative emphasizes Christ's direct communication to her, the windows include the appearance of Christ to believers. First he reveals himself to Mary Magdalene, then Thomas who is invited to put his hand into Christ's side, then the three disciples on the road to Emmaus, a scene invariably used as a metaphor for the pilgrim's experience so central to the behavior of Kempe's life and travels.
