LEARNING ABOUT HINDUISM THROUGH STORIES

Hindu children learn about their religion through the use of stories or legends, just like many parents in our society may teach their children about Christianity through the use of Bible stories for example. Many of these legends teach a moral or value that is related to Hinduism.

The following link will take you to a site that contains many Indian legends told in the way a Hindu child might be told. The stories are reader friendly for middle-schoolers.
Hindu Beliefs through Indian Legends

The following links will take you to YouTube videos of Hindu legends that I found helpful. I plan to use these to compare with some of the legends that we read. They will also give the students a great visual connection to the stories.

Prince of Light 2:09
Childhood of Krishna 1:41
Lord Ganesh – A Traditional Tale 2:12
How Ganesha Lost his Tusk 2:53
Ganesh: includes many images of Ganesh and Indian music 3:56
