King Gesar

Gesar was the king of the legendary kingdom Ling, according to poetry, prose, and oral tradition.  More variations of Gesar’s story exist than can be easily compiled here, for his stories far outnumber the texts of the Iliad. As a brief overview of his tale, Gesar was born.  The method and parentage vary, but he had a miraculous birth.  Some time while still quite young, he was raised in the woods by his mother.  His childhood was that of an outcast.  He then competes in a horse race that either earns him his wife or sovereignty of Ling.

After his marvelous deeds that earned him the right to rule, Gesar defends his country from many invaders, human and otherwise.  After decades of leadership, he descends to Hell briefly before rising to one of the Heavens.
This information is quite sparse for there are so many traditions to examine, so do not be discouraged by this summary of events.
