1. According to Bales, how do contemporary forms of slavery differ from historical ones?
2. What are the economic underpinnings of slavery?
3. For each of the two country chapters that you are reading, please answer the following: What are the key features of the forms of slavery in that country? What kinds of evidence does Bales provide to support his characterizations? What different actors and entities are responsible for perpetuating or expanding slavery? What economic, cultural, and social factors are involved?
4. According to Bales, how are we all implicated in contemporary forms of slavery? What can be done to address the problem?
