Interstate Networks

The state ratification debates were not taking place in a vacuum. Those participating in the debates used letters to discuss the issues with their friends and colleagues, forming an interconnected network. This resulted in a number of common debates taking place in numerous states at different times. It is important to note that this research only focused on three key states, but that is not to say that there were not connections between these states and the others.

Interconnected News

Newspapers during the ratification debates depended heavily on one another. Most papers would send every copy they printed to other news sources, so that news could be reprinted there. Many of the state debate transcripts were reprinted in other states for those citizens to read, which lead to certain letters and articles being widely circulated.
