Tibet and the Himalayas -- Rooftop of the World

This page is intended to be a resource to complement a three week unit on the geography, religions and cultures of the Himalayan region.  The text that is used concentrates very heavily on South Asia with very little devoted to the mountain regions. "Fifty million people live in the mountains and gain their livelihood from them. Several hundred million more live within sight of the Himalaya, or among places that are inextricably tied to them in ecological ways." (Himalaya: Life on the Edge of the World)
