Welcome!!!

Globalization is everywhere and increasingly touches every aspect of life.  High school students need to have a growing understanding of the world in order to function successfully within it.  In addition, it is increasingly important for students to understand the impact of geography in world history.  We are all interconnected!!

The following are guiding questions that can be discussed with teachers and students:

  • How has geography shaped the development of the Himalayan Region of Asia?
  • What role does geography play today in the development of this region?
  • How and why are religion and politics connected in India, Nepal, and Tibet?
  • How does the literature and art of this region reflect its geography, religion, and politics?
  • Why should the world care about what happens in the Himalayas?

The information, lesson plans, and resources contained within this website are designed to create an interdisciplinary introduction to the Himalayan Region of Asia.  The topics within this site can be used as smaller units in pre-existing curriculum or as individual units themselves.  The content and topics of this website are designed to assist Global History teachers at the high school level and can easily be adapted to meet the needs of diverse learners.

This site was created by Erica B. Svatek at the NEH Summer Institute "Literatures, Religions, and Arts of the Himalayan Region," held at the College of the Holy Cross, Summer 2008.
