Today India is known throughout the world as a leader in computer technology, but the people of the Indian subcontinent have a long history of technology as well.   What makes India so endlessly fascinating is the mix of modern and ancient, of the new and the old, existing side by side.  This is a country whose earliest settlers designed cities in rectangular grids with a sewage system, indoor plumbing, and multi-storied buildings—5,000 years ago.  Yet today many of India’s citizens live with no running water.
The technology of India spans a very wide perspective.  Explore its Art, Architecture, Transportation, and Inventions by clicking on each of the links above.
