Text Compare + Contrast
We will compare and contrast Tashi Tsering's The Struggle for Modern Tibet and Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone. In addition to this, we will attempt to answer the following question using evidence from the texts, personal experiences, and the larger world:

These two texts will be the focus of the unit. Students will read them consecutively and create detailed double-entry journals as they read them. Responses should be two or more meaningful sentences.
The reasoning behind completing these journals is so that students can recall specific parts of the texts at a later time for a Socratic Seminar on the two texts and for a comparative essay that responds to the essential question or a topic proposal they have discussed with me already. Additionally, students will identify various types of obstacles that Tashi and Ishmael face and their response to them.
