For the independent study project, students will focus on four connections they can make between symbols or ideas within the Himalayan region and literature.

For example, the conch shell is popular object within Hindu iconography. This shell is also a significant symbol in William Golding's novel, The Lord of the Flies.

For this research paper, students will choose four significant symbols or ideas to compare and contrast based on their treatment in the Himalayan Region and literature students have read in class. This project is designed for honors students specifically.
