  • Part IV tests students’ ability to analyze and evaluate two previously read literary works and write a critical essay about them.
  • Part IV also tests students’ understanding of literary elements.

How is Part IV similar to other parts of the exam?

  • Part IV is similar to Part III in that both parts require students to write about literary works rather than informational texts.

How does Part IV differ from the other parts of the exam?

  • Part IV is the only part of the exam that does not include selections or multiple-choice questions.
  • Students are asked to write an essay about literary works that they have previously read.
